Cycling Grading & Rider Requirements

Choosing the right holiday / day trip for you

Hike + Bike’s base in Ronda is surrounded by some of the best road cycling terrain and conditions in Europe. The roads leading into the town provide a range of options in terms of gradient and distance and generally have super smooth surfaces.  The natural parks of Sierra de Grazalema and Sierra de las Nieves, located on each side of the town, have excellent roads running through and around them, so you also get to enjoy fantastic views as you ride. We are perfectly located to ride through the mountains down to the coast, providing a great, long downhill and, if you fancy a challenge, a long and steady climb back home into the mountains.

We have a wide range of rides at all levels so you can:

  • Request an individual, tailormade holiday / day trip at a level to suit you/your group’s riding abilities and experience
  • Join a group holiday / day trip with pre-set, graded itineraries

Take a look at our grading levels to help you to understand what to expect from the region and to select the right trip for you. If you would like to chat to us about the different grades or riding in this area, please contact us. Our goal is simply to give you the best possible holiday cycling experience.

Level 1 - Easy

Scenic and enjoyable routes which focus on exploring the area at a gentle pace, with regular opportunities for breaks along the way in white villages or at viewpoints. Feature undulating or rolling terrain and occasional moderate climbs. These routes are suitable for occasional cyclists who enjoy exploring by bike but would rather not tackle huge mountain climbs. Daily distance: 25 – 40 kilometres

Level 2 - Moderate

Routes which include hill climbs and are suitable for occasional or regular cyclists who are happy to take their time but have a good level of fitness. If you enjoy the challenge of tackling a good climb once in a while and are happy with some long and fast descents, then this could be the right level for you. Aimed at riders who are looking to gain some mountain riding experience and build their fitness. Daily distance: 30 – 60 kilometres

Level 3 - Challenging

Routes which include several significant mountain climbs and long stetches of twisting mountain passes (up and down). Suitable for regular road riders with experience, good fitness and stamina and a decent level of road riding skill, without needing to be semi-pro. These routes are designed to provide challenging rides which will get your legs and lungs working hard. Daily distance: 60 - 80 kilometres
