Mountain Biking

What to Bring

The essential kit to enjoy your mountain biking holiday

  • Bike (see below) or hire one of our bikes
  • Helmet (we also have spares to rent)
  • Padded cycling shorts (essential kit for staying comfortable over a few days' riding)
  • Cycling gloves
  • Cycling tops or Tshirts
  • Extra body layers with long sleeves for winter (thin thermal tops are great)
  • Light waterproof jacket (unlikely to be needed but precaution is always best practice)
  • Neck scarf / snood (great as sweat bands in summer and for warmth in the winter)
  • Cycling shoes or trainers (firm soles are best)
  • Clip-in pedals, if you prefer to ride with these
  • Your own saddle if you prefer
  • Socks
  • Sunglasses
  • Sun cream and after-sun lotion
  • Minimum 2 litre hydration pack
  • Health insurance policy document (for UK travellers, a European Health Insurance Card, EHIC, will give you access to reduced cost medical services in Spain but it is not an alternative to travel insurance. It will not cover any private medical healthcare or costs such as mountain rescue, repatriation costs or lost or stolen property. Therefore it is important to have both an EHIC and a valid private travel insurance policy.  Some insurers now insist you hold and EHIC and many will waive the excess if you have one. The EHIC is available free at
  • Casual clothes (include warm fleece and jacket in winter, as the evenings can get chilly)

If you bring your own bike, make sure you check with your airline what their requirements are before you travel.  Pack it carefully, either in a bike box or bag to avoid damage in transit – pipe insulation is perfect to protect the frame. Remember to deflate the tyres, lower the saddle, turn the handle bars in and remove the pedals.

If you dont want to go to the expense of purchasing a good quality bike box we would recommend hiring a bike box from Bike Box Hire.

Bike Box Online specialize in bike box hire and offer the excellent Bike Box Alan for hire periods of between 1-3 weeks. The team at Bike Box Online have collection hubs at Windsor and Bristol and can deliver anywhere in the UK.

We suggest that you have your bike serviced before your trip.

We would also suggest that you bring with you a spare rear mech hanger, replacement brake pads, chain and inner tubes.

We have secure storage for your bike.
